Robert served as a Private & Engineer / Gunner on B-17E #41-2643, 93rd Bomber Squadron, 19th Bomber Group, Heavy, VII Bomber Command, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Broome County, New York prior to the war.

B-17E #41-2643 took off, with a crew of 9, from 7 Mile Drome, Central Province, Papua New Guinea on a bombing mission over Rabaul, East New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea.

They were attacked by enemy aircraft and by ground enemy anti-aircraft fire. They ended up crashing near Kabanga, East New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea. The entire crew was lost.

Robert was "Killed In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the "Silver Star" and the Purple Heart.

He was originally interred overseas and was later repatriated here on March 14, 1950.

Service # 12029957

Robert's Silver Star was noted on G.O. No. 62 (1942).

The reason he is named on a group headstone is because when soldiers & sailors were killed in close proximity to each other they were unable, at that time, to identify them separately and interred their remains together in one grave.
