Julia Fretcher Bidle, daughter of Gottleib Frederick and Sophronia (Walker) Bidle, was born Jan. 9, 1877, at Farmington, Coles Co, IL. She was of a family of ten children, all having preceded her in death except her brother George and sister, Mrs. Dolly Leitch of Charleston.

At an early age her idea of Heaven and of God was so clear that she consecrated herself to his service, believing to seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness was the right way of life. She was admitted into the M.E. church at Farmington where she served faithfully all of its activities until Dec. 26, 1915, when she was united in marriage with Levi F. Butler by Rev. F.E. Bracewell in the home where she was born. She then resided in the Cottonwood neighborhood where she attended church and Sunday school and taught the adult ladies class; later she taught a teachers training class; though preferring to retain her membership in what she spoke of as her home church at Farmington.

On Feb. 11, 1946 she moved with her husband to Toledo where she passed away at their home Jan. 1, at 1:00 a.m., at the age of 71 years, 11 months and 23 days, thus ending the earthly pilgrimage of one most sincerely devoted to her God, her companion, her relatives and her friends.

Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon from the Toledo Methodist church. The following songs were sung by Rev. & Mrs. Vern J. Denham of Charleston; Old Rugged Cross, Rock of Ages, I Will Meet You in the Morning. Pallbearers were nephews. Flowers were in charge of nieces, assisted by members of each of the five churches in the village.
