On the 13th of March, 1896, at Walnut Creek, Holmes Co., Ohio, of apoplexy, Dr. Jacob A. Mast. He was born Nov. 27th, 1841, and thus reached the age of 54 years, 3 months and 16 days. He was married to Cassa Rose, July 29th, 1860. He leaves a wife, seven daughters, parents, seven brothers, and eight sisters to mourn his departure. The deceased was a son of Pre. Abraham Mast, of Walnut Creek, Ohio. He and his wife united with the Amish Mennonite church in their youth, and were worthy and faithful members. Funeral services and interment on 16th, at the Walnut Creek A.M. meeting house by John H. Miller of this place, Charles Hartman of Shanesville, Ohio, from Isaiah 38:1 and Fred Mast of Berlin, Ohio, from 2 Cor. 4:17, 18, to a large concourse of friends and relatives. He began to teach in the public schools when about 18 years old, taught six terms, after which he began the study of medicine under Dr. Noah Yoder at Berlin, Holmes Co., Ohio. Graduated as a physician in 1869 at the Western University of Cleveland, Ohio, after which he practiced medicine at Walnut Creek, Ohio, until his death. He was esteemed by all who knew him.
