Hoopeston, Illinois Daily Chronicle, Monday, October 27, 1913

Dr. Bishop was living with his son, John at Grinnell, in the southern part of the state. He was afflicted with heart trouble, complicated with other troubles, and was brought to the Soldiers' Home hospital in Danville on Wednesday of last week. All that could be done for him was done, but to no avail, and he died Saturday morning.

Isaac Newton Bishop lacked but one day of being seventy-nine years old at the time of his death. He lived in Ohio until he was twenty years old, when he went to Chicago and entered the Chicago Medical school.

While under-graduate there he was appointed assistant surgeon of the 57th regiment of Illinois volunteers. He was in the Atlanta campaign and marched with Sherman to the sea. He was in several battles, and was mustered out in Chicago in 1865.

He then finished his medical studies and graduated with honor in the spring of 1866. He began the practice of medicine at Salem, Ohio, and remained there one year, when he came to Prairie Green township, remaining here until 1890 or '91, when he went to Dewitt county. He retired from practice in 1902 and shortly afterward went to Grinnell to live with his son John.

He was united in marriage with Anna Mitchell January 4, 1871. To this union five children were born, only one of whom is now living. His wife and four children died while living in Prairie Green and lie buried in Floral Hill. He leaves one brother, Joseph Bishop, who lives at Mansfield, Ohio.

He was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian church, and many of the old time Prairie Green people will remember with gratitude his toil and sacrifices for them, and will unite in sympathy and condolence for the son and other relatives left to mourn.
