Deborah Alice Nixon Graves, 45, of Columbia died Wednesday, April 22, 1999, at University Hospital.


Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 24, at Forum Boulevard Christian Church with the Rev. Max Jennings officiating. Burial will be in Auxvasse Cemetery . Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 23, at Memorial Funeral Home.


Mrs. Graves was born Aug. 28, 1953, in Mexico, Mo., to Sherman and Marie Mullen Nixon. She married Phillip Graves on June 16, 1986, in Auxvasse, and he survives.


She graduated from North Callaway High School and received a master's degree in elementary education from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1975. She taught seventh-grade at Hatton-McCredie Elementary School for 12 years and also ran a preschool from her home for the past five years. She was Missouri State Teacher of the Year in 1980. She was a member of Forum Boulevard Christian Church and was Christian education director for two years. She was a volunteer for Boy Scout Troop No. 4, Cub Scout Pack No. 703 and Fairview Elementary School.


Other survivors include her mother of Auxvasse; two sons, David Graves and Robert Graves, both of Columbia; two brothers, Bill Nixon of Columbia and Richard Nixon of Boonville; and two sisters, Diane Chancellor and Donna Crockett, both of Columbia.


Memorials are suggested to David and Robert Graves College Fund, Boone National Savings Bank, in care of Personal Banker, P.O. Box 1323, Columbia, Mo., 65205.
