Herb was born Sept. 9, 1919, in Stanley to Louis and Caroline (nee Blazel) Haase. He farmed until he was called to serve in the U.S. Army during WWII. On Jan. 6, 1951, he married the former Leora Thorson in Eau Claire and lived there until 2007, when he moved to the Panorama Apartments in Florence, Ky., to be closer to his son.
A life-long member of St. Olaf Catholic Church, Herb was employed by Uniroyal Tire Company for 30 years until he retired in 1982. He was a devoted husband and father who loved to fish and travel with his wife Leora in their motor home to visit friends and family. He especially enjoyed the past two years being close to his son and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his son, David (Diane) Haase of Verona, Ky.; a brother, Raymond Haase of Stanley; a sister, Lucille Haase of Seattle; three grandchildren, John, Megan and Matthew; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers, Clarence, Henry and Lawrence; and a sister, Dorothea.
The Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 3220 Monroe St., Eau Claire, with Fr. Brian Konopa officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to Mass on Friday at the church. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, with military honors provided by VFW Post #305.
