Carol Vee Van Vark was born on June 21, 1918, in Pella, Iowa. She was the first of two children that were born to Clarence W. and Hazel Marguerite Veenstra Van Vark. Vee, as she was known, attended the Pella Public Schools and graduated from Pella High School. She attended the University of Iowa at Iowa City, Iowa for one year where she obtained her teaching certificate. Vee taught school at North English, Iowa for two years and then at Woodrow Wilson in Des Moines, Iowa. She then worked in the insurance industry as a secretary in Los Angeles, California. Vee was employed with Marsh McLennan for 38 years. She retired in December of 1983, after residing in the Los Angeles area and returned to her hometown, Pella, Iowa. Vee became a resident in the Long Term Care Unit at the Pella Regional Health Center in February of 2007 where she resided the remainder of her lifetime. She passed away there on Friday morning, December 4, 2009, at the age of 91 years, 5 months and 13 days. Vee is survived by a sister-in-law, Margaret (Allen) Van Vark; and a nephew and his wife, Greg and Lynn (Bokelmann) Van Vark and their family: Teresa and Todd Cummings and their two children, Sydney and Clayton Cummings and Jonathan (J.R.) Van Vark all of Pella, Iowa. Vee was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence W. and Hazel Van Vark; her brother, Robert C. Van Vark and his first wife, Betty (Stevenson) Van Vark; and a niece, Diane Van Vark. Vee was baptized and made profession of her faith at the First Reformed Church in Pella. At the time of her death she was a member of the Second Reformed Church in Pella, Iowa. and Grady Mann. Her sister Jessie Refnes in Sacramento, CA as well as three sisters-in-law, Shirley Tolsma in Mitchell, SD, Pauline Tolsma in Stickney, SD and Virginia Josephson in Homedale, ID and numerous nieces and nephews also survive her. Also surviving her is her husband Rev. Kenneth Dykstra presently of Urbandale, IA and his three children Mark Dykstra, Lois Gates, and Paul (Nancy) Dykstra and their families. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Jim, her brothers Ray, Gerben, and Lawrence, and her sisters Emma VandenHoek, Jennie Van Genderen and Minnie Jansen.
