DuBois Man Held In Fatal Shooting At Narrows Creek

A 59-year-old Dubois man is being held by state police in Dubois this morning on an open charge of homicide, following the fatal shooting of his 26-year-old son-in-law early this morning.
Guy Tyger, of 504 Maple Ave., admitted to police he was in a scuffle with his son-in-law when a rifle was discharged.
The victim was Ardell LeRoy Galentine, of RD 2 Dubois, the Narrows Creek section. He is a native of the Luthersburg area.
The shooting occurred between 2:30 and 2:40 o'clock this morning in a hunting camp about four miles north of here. The camp is located along a dirt road immediately off legislative route 17091 which intersect with route 255.
A short time after the shooting, Tyger drove into the Dubois state police station and reported the incident.
The Investigation was started by Troopers Kenneth and Francis Plyler and Deputy Coroner George Waylonis at 4 a.m. today.
Later this morning, Tyger was taken to the scene of the shooting by troopers Assistant District Attorney Eugene G Kitko and Clearfield County Coroner Robert Heath. He was to re-enact the incident for the officials.
According to police, Tyger had gone to the hunting camp in an effort to patch up a "difference" which had occured between Galentine and his wife, LaVerna. The couple had been making the hunting camp their home. He was un-employed, having recently been working at Nichol's Garage in Sykesville.
Mr. Tyger told troopers Galentine jumped on him when he entered the two-room camp. While on his knees, Tyger reached for a 25-20 caliber rifle near the doorway.
In the ensuing tussle, the rifle was discharged, Tyger said.
"If there's to be any shooting here, I'll do it." Tyger reported Galentine as saying as Galentine injected another cartridge into the chamber.
The tussle continued and the rifle went off a second time, Tyger told police.
"Hey Pop....you got me this time," Galentine muttered and fell to the floor, Tyger related to police.
The bullet struck Galentine in the left portion of the abdomen.
An autopsy was conducted this morning at the Short funeral home by Dr. John Unger, pathologist for the Brookville and Maple Avenue Hospitals.
No further details were released by the Troopers or the district attorney's office.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Short funeral home.
