FLYING IN HEAVEN
Remembering 1st Lt George W. Foote and PFC Richard J. Foote, two brothers from Genesee County, Michigan. During WWII, George and Richard both joined the USAAF and both went overseas to confront the forces of tyranny. George served in Europe with the 716th Bomber Squadron, 449th Bomber Group (as a pilot), while his little brother Richard fought in the Pacific with the 64th Bomber Squadron, 43rd Bomber Group (as an air gunner). Their beloved parents, Alphonso and Nettie, prayed every single day for their two boys to come home safely, but neither of them did. On May 24, 1944, George was flying over Austria when his bomber got hit by German anti-aircraft fire and crashed, killing him instantly. He was 27 years old. His father never recovered from his death and passed away on September 25, 1944. Nine days later, on October 4, 1944, Richard was also killed during a bombing mission over the Philippines. He was 25 years old. George is now resting in peace at the Lorraine American Cemetery in France, and his little brother Richard is interred at the Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines.
