Funeral Services for Late Paul Whitacre Held Wednesday

Funeral services for the late Paul Whitacre were held at the home of the family late Wednesday afternoon. Interment was made in Riverside cemetery under the direction of the Masonic fraternity, of which order Mr. Whitacre had been a prominent member and at one time it’s chief officer.

Mr. Whitacre was taken ill late last week, with a severe attack of appendicitis and his condition became so grave that an immediate operation became necessary. The operation was performed Saturday and Mr. Whitacre seemed at the first to be making satisfactory recovery, but Sunday a relapse occurred and he passed away Tuesday morning about 8:30.

Mr. Whitacre has been a sufferer from the disease for a number of years, having had his first attack some twelve years ago when the family resided at Fort Morgan. It was hot for a time then that he could not survive, but his splendid constitution pulled him thru.

It is said that when the operation was performed the affected organ was in such condition that the operating physician had little hope for his recovery.

Mr. Whitacre was one of the prominent business men in Sterling. He had spent a good many years of his life here and was held in the highest esteem by everyone and especially by his lodge brethren with whom he came in close communion and who were thus able to understand and appreciate him as a man.

A wife and two children are bereaved and they have the sympathy of many friends in this community.
