He married Elizabeth May Bentley in 1913 and they had five children: Kermit Lemoin, Jesse Darrell, Cecil Delmar, Velma Eulond and Elvin Lorraine.
As a young man, Turrence worked in the Shoal Creek coal mine in Panama, IL where he became acquainted with the union organizer John L Lewis. (Lewis & family lived in Panama from 1909-1915).
According to his son, Kermit, Turrence also flew in an airplane with Charles Lindbergh during one of his barnstorming expeditions.
Turrence turned exclusively to farming after the mines closed during the great depression and lived on a farm south of Sorento, IL.
