Chico Daily Record, Monday Morning, January 14, 1901, pg 1 col 1: Death of Mrs. Pratt. Mrs. Sarah Pratt, widely known in Butte, Plumas and Colusa counties, died Saturday evening in San Francisco, the immediate cause of death being Bright’s disease. Mrs. Pratt had resided in the home of Dr. and Mrs. A.J. Landis during eight years past. Last June she went to Berkeley to spend the summer, and later wen to San Francisco for a visit. One month ago she suffered a fracture of one of her hip bones by a fall, and she was permanently weakened by the shock.

Deceased was born in England, February 15, 1824, and was therefore aged 77 years. At the age of 21 she came to America, and on June 14, 1848, was married to Dr. Willard Pratt at Hanchettville, Dane county, Wis. Dr. Pratt came to California first in 1853, but it was not until 1859 that Mrs. Pratt came with him. They settled first in Colusa county and later moved to what is known as the Four Corners, a few mils above Chico. Mrs. Pratt’s husband practiced medicine here for several years. About 1870 he purchased 800 acres of land in Big Meadows and built a hotel at what is known as Prattville. He died in 1888, and four years later Mrs. Pratt made her home with Dr. and Mrs. Landis.

Mrs. Pratt was a lady of large acquaintanceship, and as great a circle of friends. She was a highly esteemed member of the Chico Presbyterian Church, in which she was an earnest worker for several years.

Five children survive her – Mrs. D.A. Haun and T.E. Pratt of Prattville, Mrs. C.J. Sommer and Mrs. A.J. Landis of Chico and Marion Pratt of San Francisco.

The remains will arrive in Chico this morning and the funeral will be held at the Presbyterian Church this afternoon at 2 o’clock.
