Andrew "Jack" Casey

Age 85, of Bear passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 in the presence of his dedicated wife, Lee, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on June 12, 1925 in Beechwood, PA, to Andrew J. and Florence E. Kramer Casey.

Jack graduated from Upper Darby High School, attended Georgetown University in Washington D.C. for two years, and then transferred to the University of Delaware where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration.

During WWII, he served in the US Navy Sea Bees for 3 years. While in Okinawa, he destroyed a Japanese Zero Plane when its pilot landed to shoot American troops with his Sea Bee roller tractor. Upon his discharge, he followed up in the reserve for 20 years and returned for special assignments until he reached age 70.

In 1947, he married Katherine Larramore, in which the marriage lasted 54 years until her death. Three children were born from this marriage, daughters Jean, Katherine, and son Andrew.

In civilian life, Jack first worked as an insurance agent for John Hancock. He followed that with going in the employment business with his own agency, Casey Employment. During this 35 year career, he authored several books on employment counseling. Always very public service minded, Jack served 2 terms as Delaware State Representative. He also served 4 years on the New Castle County Council.

An active 33rd Degree Mason, Jack serves as an officer and trustee in Brandywine Lodge #33. Also, an active royal Arch Mason, he was an active officer in Brandywine Chapter #9, and active in the Scottish Rite Valley of Wilmington, the Nur Shrine, and Commander of Delaware veterans Post #1. In 2007, he served as the Grand Tall Cedar of Brandywine forest #20 tall Cedars of Lebanon. The Grand Lodge of Delaware honored Jack in 2008 with the Award of Honor for his outstanding service to Masonry.

He was a member of St. David's Episcopal Church for many years and an active member of the Wilmington Optimist Club for over 40 years.

In addition to his loving and devoted wife Lee, Jack is survived by his children, Jean Collier and her husband, William of Barnegat, NJ, Katherine Casey of Lexington, VA, son Andrew Casey and his wife, Bonnie of Blairsville, GA; granddaughters Michelle Collier of NJ, Valentine Horton of VA, and Cali Vasatura of V; grandson Shawn Collier of MI; and his faithful friend of 42 years, Harold Heitmann of DE. You are invited to attend Jack's viewing on Sunday, June 20 at Beeson Funeral Home of Wilmington, 412 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE from 7-9 pm.

His funeral service will be held on Monday, June 21 at St. David's Episcopal Church 2320 Grubb Rd, Wilmington, DE at 11am. Interment will follow at St. James Cemetery in Stanton, DE.

In lieu of flowers, Jack's family requests that contributions be made to the Masonic Home of Delaware, 4800 Lancaster Pike, Wilmington, DE 19807.
