Born April 16, 1828, at Loughborough, England. Son of: Elizabeth (Gutridge) Bradwell & Thomas Bradwell
When James was 16 months old, him family migrated to America in 1833, settling in Jacksonville, Illionis. James grew up on a farm in Cook County, Illinois. He was initially educated in a log schoolhouse; however, he later attended Wilson's Academy in Chicago, and Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois.
1852, married MYRA COLBY. James and Myra moved to Memphis, Tenn. and opened a school. They became the parents of four children.
1854, James Bradwell was admitted to the Bar; they returned to Illinois,settling in Chicago in 1855. In 1861,elected as County Judge of Cook County. 1873, elected to the Illinois House of Representatives. Represented MARY TOOD LINCOLN after her son Robert Todd Lincoln had her committed to a sanitarium. He & his wife Myra were instrumental in her release and return to society.
James Bradwell was one of the Founders of "Union League Club of Chicago" 1893,James Bradwell served as Chairman of the Photographic Congress Auxiliary at the World's Columbian Exhibition(The Chicago World's Fair)
