Bernard F "Ben" Backes, 45, a resident of Grafton for the past eight years, died Saturday at a Grafton hospital.
Mr. Backes was born at Dresden, ND, on September 27, 1916, and lived in the Hannah and Adams areas until coming to Grafton in 1954. He was a member of the Zion English Lutheran Church.
He married the former Adeline Timian at Dresden on October 15, 1940. She survives, along with a son, Larry, Grafton; a daughter, Mrs. Donna Ness, Grafton, three brothers, Louis of Osnabrock, George of Alma, MI, and John of Coopersville, MI, and four sisters, Mrs. Rudy Westphal of Clyde, ND, Mrs. Richard Buchweitz of Langdon, Mrs. Louis Giles of Alma, MI, and Mrs. Elizabeth Wendt of Walla Walla, WA.
