George William Lady was a son of Jacob and Margaret Lady. He married Susan Gaines probably about 1809 in Sullivan county, Tennessee. We can be pretty sure of the place, because no one has found a record elsewhere, and Sullivan county records other than deeds are very scarce for the period before 1863, as the courthouse was shelled during the Civil War and burned to the ground.
George and Susan had at least 8 children (some may have been born and died in between the federal censuses):
William Jr. (1910)
Malden (1813)
Sarah (1817)
John A (1819)
Henry Dulaney (1820)
Julia (1825)
George (1826-1892)
Noah (1831)
