Ezekiel Upson. Born 7 Oct 1748, Waterbury, Ct. Died 1836, Masonville, New York, and buried there. Married 17 Sept 1772, Framington, Mary, daughter of Andrew Bronson. She was born on 23 Apr 1752, Waterbury. Died New York State.
In 1769, as the head of his mother's household, he paid taxes in Waterbury, CT. In 1772, he sold his Waterbury "Platts' Mills" property and resettled in Southington, CT. This town was the home of his wife and family during his absence in the Revolutionary War. Ezekial is the only Upson who had the distinction of serving with Washington at Valley Forge. His service record reads as follows: He enlisted 8 Apr 1776, as a Corp. in Capt. Smith's Co. In July 1776 he was in Albany. He was posted at Fort Stanwix. He re-enlisted in 1777 for 3 years in CT., MA., and NY Lines. On 11 Sept 1777, he was promoted to Sergeant. He wintered at Valley Forge. He was discharged on 22 May 1780. Before 1786, he moved with his family to Farmingbury (Wolcott). In 1791, Ezekiel was a member of the Wolcott Parish School Society. His name and that of his son Joseph are on a deed, dated 19 June 1801, in the township of Washington, Dutchess Co., New York. In 1810, he was a pensioner in New York State. On War Certificate 13753, New York he certified that from 1827 to 5 March 1836, he had been a resident of Masonville, New York. His children: Joseph, b. Southington, 17 Aug 1773, Amasa, b. Southington, 26 july 1775, Sally (Sarah) b. Southington 14 March 1781 and married John Sampson, 20 Apr 1801 in Dutchess Co., NY, Polly, b. Southington 5 Aug 1783, Ethelinda, b. Wolcott 26 April, 1786, Roxy b. Wolcott, 30 Dec 1788, d. 6 Dec 1875. Algansee, Branch, Michigan, m. Thomas Goodman 1789-1848, and Andrew Bronson, b. Wolcott, 10 Sept 1793 and married Betsey (Barnes) Smith.
