Deborah Morgan was the daughter of Thomas Morgan (1788 - ) and Mary Sapp (1793 - 1880}. She had two siblings, Newell Rufus Morgan (1830 – 1896) and Elizabeth Morgan (1837 – ).

Deborah Morgan married first (date unknown but probably around 1843 given the 1844 year of birth of her first child) Nathan Cain (1812-1877) by whom she had the following children:

Mary D. Cain (1844 – Bef 1860)
Newell J. Cain (1847 – 1913)
Rachel Ann (Cain) Bish (1852 – 1902)
Wilson Cain (1854 – )

Laura Ellen (Cain) Haxtin Ledbetter (1858 – 1946)
Mary Cain (1860 – )
Flora "Florina" Cain (1862 – )
Elwood Cain (1863 - before 1869)
George Cain (1867 – )
Elwood Cain (1869 – )

But the 1900 Federal Census shows the following:

The 1900 census shows her living alone and being widowed. The 1900 census also lists her last name as Cain rather than Rubey. Why? Could her marriage to Mr. Rubey have been annulled? Did he pass away so quickly that she never fully adopted the name Rubey? It could be because either Mr. Rubey died shortly after their marriage (a mere 13 months later) or he left Deborah. Did he leave her and did she divorce him as a result? Further research is needed.

In any event, this memorial uses Cain rather than Rubey for her surname as reflected in the 1900 Census.

The 1900 census also lists her birth as being December, 1830 and lists her as having 10 children, 9 of whom were living at the date of the census on 18 June 1900. As of the date of this writing (March 8, 2015), research has suggested that she had 11 children. This requires further research and verification.

U.S., Civil War Soldier Records and Profiles, 1861-1865 contains the following entry (his age 44 at the time of enlistment makes it reasonably likely that this record does pertain to this Nathan Cain, although further research is needed to confirm this inference):
