OBITUARY - Plain Dealer, Wabash (IN)

Richard J "Andy" Oswalt, 85, Wabash, died at 12:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, at Bickford Cottage in Wabash.

He was born Sept. 29, 1923, in Wabash County, to Roy and Eunice (Phillips) Oswalt. He married Miriam Louise Campbell on April 29, 1945; she died Aug. 14, 2005.

Andy retired in 1985 from General Tire in Wabash after 25 years. He coached Little League Baseball several years. He was a member of the Wabash Christian Church, Wabash Elks Lodge, and the Wabash American Legion Post 15. Andy enjoyed cards, dancing, and loved his family. He and his wife, Miriam, spent several winters in Fort Myers Beach, Fla. He was a platoon sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He is survived by his two sons, John (Lori) Oswalt, Morton, Ill., and Joseph (Brenda) Oswalt, Wabash; his daughter, Janice (Ron) Binkerd, Wabash; five grandchildren, Amanda (Jason) Randel, Andy (Amy) Oswalt, Sarah Binkerd, Erica Binkerd and Meghan Binkerd, all of Wabash; and five great-grandchildren, Alexi Randel, Audrie Randel, Jace Randel, Kasen Oswalt and Bailee Payton, all of Wabash. He was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Martin.

Funeral services will be held at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash, on Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, at 2 p.m. Pastor Rick Stone will officiate. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday. Preferred memorial is Wabash-Miami Home Health Care and Hospice.
