RALEIGH - John D. Lineberger of Anderson Drive in Raleigh and
Chancellor Garden in Charlotte died November 11, 1999 in Charlotte.

Mr. Lineberger was born in 1911 in Shelby, NC, the son of John Lineberger and Nannie Sherrill Lineberger.

He attended the Citadel for two years and was a 1932 graduate of Duke University. He served as a naval officer during WWII assigned to U.S. Submarine Atlantic Fleet based in New London, Ct. He worked for S&W Cafeterias in Asheville, Raleigh, and Charlotte for 44 years, retiring as president in 1978. He is past president of the NC Restaurant Association and was honored as Restauranteer of the year. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Hayes Barton Methodist Church in Raleigh.

Mr. Lineberger was predeceased by Louise Bradshaw Lineberger, his wife of 65 years in 1998 and a brother Sherrill Lineberger of Shelby.

He is survived by his son, John D. Lineberger, Jr. of Charlotte; daughter, Mary Louise Lineberger Allen of Winston-Salem; grandchildren Mary Lineberger Barnett of Charlotte, J.D. Lineberger, IV of Lakeland, FL, Frances Lineberger Barry of Huntersville, Louise Allen of Austin, TX and Nancy Allen of Winston-Salem; seven great-grandchildren,sister, Nancy Lyles of High Point.

The family requests that memorials be sent to Hayes Barton Methodist Church, 2209 Fairview Road, Raleigh, NC 27608.
