Obituary:

Jessie Velma (Serl) Haynes, 89 passed away on Friday evening April 10, 2009 at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, Missouri. On September 5, 1919 she was born in Miller County, Missouri to the late Charles Ernest and Mettie Lee (Hader) Serl. On September 7, 1940 she was married in Warsaw, Missouri to Norman Jefferson Haynes who preceded her in death on June 27, 1978.

Surviving her are a daughter and son-in-law Norma DeAnn (Haynes) and Ray Alley of Jefferson City, MO; grandchildren and spouse Alycia RaeAnn Alley of Kansas City, MO, Anitra Dawn Alley of Colubmia, MO, Benjamin Aaron and wife Anna Alley of Overland Park, KS; a sister Ruby Marie Jobe of Jefferson City, MO; sister-in law June Serl of Stewartsville, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Helen Atkinson, and two brothers John David Serl and Charles Lee Serl.

She was a member of Concord Baptist Church of Jefferson City, Missouri. She taught Sunday school for fifty-two years at several churches including Concord.

She worked at TG&Y in Jefferson City for ten years. She & her husband operated a grocery store in Enon for many years. They lived in the Olean community before moving to Jefferson City in 1959. She was a wonderful homemaker. She wanted to be remembered for living a Christian life, for being truthful when something else would have been easier, for being dependable in every way, for being an above average (but not perfect) wife and loving Mother and Grandmother, and that she was!

Visitation will be held on Monday April 13, 2009 at Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon, Missouri from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM. Funeral Service will be held also on Monday April 13, 2009 at Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon, Missouri at 3:00 PM with Rev. Benjamin Alley & Dr. Monte Shinkle presiding. Interment will be at Allen Cemetery in Olean, Missouri. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or Concord Baptist Church of Jefferson City Missouri.
