RUTH HUFFMASTER FOX -Aug. 25, 1925 - Dec. 11, 2009. Preceded in death by parents Hu T. Huffmaster and Nonie Thompson Huffmaster; husband Milton Ernest Fox; and daughter Helen Ann Fox. Survived by sisters Drusilla Huffmaster Anderson and Ellen Huffmaster Wilhelm, son Bryan Fox, son Martin Fox, daughter Susan Fox Roderick and her husband Ken Roderick, and son Clayton Fox and his wife Beth Fox, grand-children Meagan Fox Ross, Andrew Campbell, Derek Fox, Brandon Fox, Michael Campbell, Preston Fox, and Christopher McDonald; great-grand-children Dillon Campbell, Brody Campbell, Robert Ross, Benjamin Ross, and Cade Campbell.Ruth was born in Houston, Texas and graduated from San Jacinto High School. She attended the University of Texas at Austin, receiving a Bachelor of Music in Concert Organ in 1947. Member of Alpha Phi sorority. Met Milton Fox while singing in the University of Texas Acappella Choir and married Milton in 1947. Member of Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO).Minister of Music, Organist, and Choir Director for over 30 years at Grace Presbyterian Church, Lafayette, La., Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, Houston, TX, and Holy Spirit Episcopal Church, Houston, Tx. Member of the Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church, Austin, Texas. Ordained Presbyterian Deacon. Selected one of ten outstanding women by the Texas Federation of Republican Women (TFRW) in 1980. First Republican elected President of the Texas Legislative Ladies Club (LLC) 1985 - 1987. Elected State President of TFRW for 1988 - 1990. Served as Commissioner of the Texas Fine Arts Commission for 1988 - 1994. Campaign Activity Chairman for the National Federation of Republican Women for 1990 - 1992.Ruth's interests included music, politics, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to whom she was affectionately known as "Grandmother Foxy". She and Milton celebrated 60 wonderful years together and enjoyed raising 5 children, serving in elected and appointed state political offices, singing in the church choir, and traveling. Ruth's devotion to God and family, her warm smile, and her love and concern for all will be remembered most by the many friends, family, and colleagues who had the honor to know her. A memorial service will be held at Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church in Austin, Texas on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. (noon) with interment to follow immediately at the Texas State Cemetery. Friends are invited to attend the service and burial, and gather with family at the George Christian Reception Room on the cemetery grounds.
