In 1930 he and his son lived with his parents on a farm they owned in Warren Township, Lucas County, IA. They did have a radio. He worked as a public school teacher.

In 1940 he and his second wife and his son from his first marriage lived in a house they were renting for ten dollars a month in Hastings, IA. He worked as a teacher in a country school, with an income in 1939 of $810 for 38 weeks of work. Phyllis worked as a part-time teacher, with an income in 1939 of $108 for nine weeks of work.

Rollie Verl Fight, son of Delos Edward Fight and Stella May Stephens Fight, was born Nov. 7, 1900 at Derby, Iowa in Lucas County. He died in the Decatur County Hospital, Leon, Iowa, Oct. 31, 1980 at the age of 79 years, 11 months and 24 days.

He lived in Lucas County during his early years and was graduated from Derby High School. In 1924 he married Ina Gladys Overholtzer, who was deceased in 1929. A son, Gerald Eugene, was born to this marriage.

In 1938 Rollie was married to Phyllis Lucile Duey who survives him. In addition to his wife, Phyllis, and his son, Gerald and wife Jean of San Diego, California, he is survived by sons: Larry Verl and wife Erma, Davenport, Ia.; Roger Dean and wife Rose, Beaverton, Oregon; daughters: Kathleen Edna and husband Bob Horney, Altoona; Norma Lee and husband Roger Walston, Greenfield; one sister, Alta Fight Thomas, Mt. Pleasant; ten grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Rollie taught in the rural schools of Lucas and Mills Counties of Iowa; operated a hardware store at Rolf, Ia.; farmed in Lucas, Wayne and Decatur Counties; and clerked at the Humeston Livestock Sale Barn for the last 25 years.

From a lifelong interest in antiques and collectibles, Rollie helped to initiate and develop the Decatur County Museum, particularly the Country Store and Agricultural exhibits. He was one of the founders of the Decatur County Annual Threshing Bee and in 1980 received the Thresher of the Year award for distinguished service.

Rollie was a member of the United Church of Garden Grove and Modern Woodmen of America.

Funeral service was held Nov. 3, 1980 at the Slade Funeral Home, Leon, Ia. Officiating were the Revs. Fay and James Fedlam. Burial was in the Derby Cemetery, Derby, Iowa.
