Arthur, eldest son of Thomas and Elizabeth, stayed behind to maintain and work the family farm in Ray County, Missouri while the rest of the Rhoads family embarked on a journey to scout a trail for the displaced Mormons to California in 1846. Many journeys were made by his brothers, and nephews to Missouri and back to California, but Arthur never left his home.
The impressive spire headstone of Arthur Foster Rhodes is located next to the white marble headstone of Nancy Elder (Mathews) Rhods that has been harvested.
