Dr. Calvert's death occurred at the Western National Military Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers in Delaware Twp, Leavenworth, KS. During the Civil War he was a Private in Co C, 30th Reg, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was born in Smith Twp, Belmont, OH, to John Pennell Calvert, Sr, and Edith Beale, who were very early settlers of the area before Ohio became a state in 1803.

William Marion Calvert was married 23 Aug 1857 to Minerva Williams, a practical nurse, of Alexander Twp, Athens, OH, and divorced by her on 9 Jun 1873 in Athens, OH. Their children were John Clinton, George Wilbur, Edella Jane, and Hattie Estella.

His second marriage occurred ca 1880 in Middletown, Montgomery, MO, to Caroline Melissa (Carrie) Martin, who was originally from MD. Their daughters were Cecil and Ionia. Unable to obtain a divorce, Carrie separated permanently by 1900.
