Kokomo Tribune - Monday, October 27, 1969:

Funeral services are pending for Sam G. VanSickle, 71, 1004 E. Walnut Street, who died at 7:30 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Miami County, Indiana, he was the son of Joseph and Orpha (Duncan) VanSickle. In 1938, he was married to Maxine Downey of Kokomo who survives.

A graduate of Kokomo High School in 1915, he attended DePauw University and the University of Illinois. During World War I, he had officers' training at DePauw. VanSickle was an inspector for Chrysler Corporation for more than 20 years, retiring in 1963. His affiliations included Naphtali Masonic Lodge at Center; Hillsdale United Methodist Church; and American Legion Post 6.

Surviving with the widow are daughter Mrs. H. B. (Clara) Reeve of San Mateo, California; two sons, Sam Jr. of Olympia Fields, Illinois, and David R. of Roachdale, Indiana; two step-children, John Nolte of Indianapolis, and Mrs. D. H. (Marcy) Henschen of Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren; and seven step-grandchildren.

He also leaves three brothers and three sisters: John and Frank of Kokomo; Joe of Monticello; Mrs. Hazel Haynes and Mrs. Arthur Miller, both of Arcadia; Mrs. Grace Bailey, Lemmon, South Dakota. A brother, Herman, is deceased.
