Kokomo Tribune - Saturday, November 15, 1952:
Joseph Estle Bates, 50, South Emery Street, died at 2 a.m. Saturday at the St. Joseph Hospital where he had been a patient since Thursday. He had been critically ill eight days, pneumonia developing from a complication of diseases.
The deceased was born November 19, 1901 in Jefferson County, Tennessee, the son of John and Ann Bates. He had been a punch-press operator at the Globe American factory since 1949. He was a member of the Darrough Chapel Congregational Christian Church.
Surviving are the widow, Lucy, and the following children:
Mrs. Eva Mae Ward, Jacksonboro, Tennessee
Harvey Bates, Kokomo
Claude Bates in military service overseas
Millard Bates, at home
Betty Bates, at home
Margaret Bates, at home
Joseph Bates, at home
He also leaves three grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Vada Cheatham and Mrs. Sadie Mynett, both of Knoxville, Tennessee; and two brothers, Elmer Bates, Maynardville, Tennessee; and Dewey Bates, Kokomo.
The body is at Ellers Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements await word from the son in the Army.
