Max Frauenthal is an
Arkansan who is well noted
for his bravery during the
Civil War.

Later, he became a successful
Arkansas businessman.

He was called:
the "Father of Heber Springs
and Cleburne County, Arkansas"

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

As a 16 year old immigrant,
Max Frauenthal enlisted in
the Confederate Army as a
Private for the 16th Regiment,
Company A, Mississippi Volunteers.
He took part in the battle called:
"Bloody Acute Angle"
at the
Spotsylvania Courthouse, Virginia.
There he showed unflinching gallantry.
Confederate veterans used the name:
"Fronthall" as a synonym for
'physical courage'.

Frauenthal was HUSBAND to
WIFE - Sallie Jacobs

They were wed on January 24, 1869
in Louisville, Mississippi

He was FATHER to 13 children

In 1871, Frauenthal moved to
Faulkner County, Arkansas.
He started a successful business
across from the downtown railroad
with a small homeplace nearby.
Following a fire, he replaced his
formerly-wooden structures with the
town's first brick building.
The quality constructed Frauenthal
building still stands and is on the
National Register of Historic Places.

* Frauenthal gave property
for a court square
in anticipation of the new
Cleburne County
being established.

* 'Sugar Loaf'
(soon to be renamed Heber Springs)
became the county seat.

* A frame courthouse was
constructed by Frauenthal.

he made to the community.
