Sharon Kay Isaacs, age 72, of Valparaiso, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2009 at the Waters of the Dunes in Chesterton, IN.
She was born on May 18, 1937 in Valparaiso, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents Leroy and Helen (Link) Hanrahan.
Sharon is survived by her husband of 50 years, Tom; two sons: Craig (Mary) Isaacs of Valparaiso and Scott (Karen) Isaacs of Toms River, NJ; and brother, Don (Barb) Hanrahan of Savage, MN.
She was a proud grandmother to Oliver, Emily and Matthew. She had many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sharon was raised on Sunset Hill Farm, was a cheerleader and graduate from Liberty Township High School (1955) and Ball State University, college of Nursing (1959). Sharon loved hummingbirds, roses, gardening and helping children. She spent years as a school nurse for the Duneland School Corporation and retired as the school nurse for the East Porter County School Corporation. After her diagnosis in 1999, she agreed to be a participant in an experimental chemotherapy cancer treatment administered at Rush Hospital in Chicago, IL. Her battle was brave and her love touched all that knew her. She will be dearly missed. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 18, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Bartholomew Funeral Home, 102 Monroe Street, Valparaiso, IN with Pastor William Pershun officiating. Burial will be in Kimball Cemetery in Liberty Township. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Bartholomew Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in her name to: Visiting Nurses Association of Porter County, the Porter County Cancer Society or the Waters of Dunes.
