Katherine Nelli Marsh went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007. She was born in northern Kentucky on May 8, 1922.

She later moved to St. Louis where she married her husband, now deceased. She came to Oak Ridge with her husband and children in 1950, where she had her last son Michael.

She was a devout Christian who attended the Church of Christ in Gainesville Ga., where she has been living. She was a gentle woman who wrote poetry and loved to paint.

Katherine loved her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She loved to collect all sorts of things, from bells to matchbooks she had from around the world. What she loved best, though, was reading God's word because of her deep love for her Lord. Katherine would spend many hours reading from the Bible, and at 84 was still amazed at how much she learned even though she had read it through so many times in her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Zodie Gray, whom she adored and respected so much; her husband, James A. Marsh Sr., whom she said was watching and waiting for her, and her oldest son, James A Marsh Jr.

She leaves to mourn her passing her children whom she so deeply loved: her beloved only daughter, Jane A. Howell of Harriman; three sons and their wives, Robert A. and wife Linda Marsh of Oak Ridge, Zane V. and wife Helen Marsh of Gainesville Ga., and Michael M. and wife Wanda Marsh, also of Oak Ridge.

Katherine also had very deep love for her grandson, Kelly Marsh of Gainesville Ga., whom she raised from early childhood. She never thought of him as a grandson but as a son of whom she was very proud. Katherine has many grand and great-grandchildren. She wanted a special mention of Serena Danielle and Megan Michelle Marsh, of Oak Ridge, and Heather and Aaron Marsh, of South Carolina.

She loved all her family and friends and will be deeply missed.

Katherine never asked of anything for herself and would not want anything now, so please, instead of flowers, make a donation to the benevolence fund at the Highland View Church of Christ in Oak Ridge. Katherine was introduced to Christ there. She was baptized there, along with many of her family, and had a special love for them.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2007, at Weatherford Mortuary in Oak Ridge with the funeral service to follow. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2007, at the Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be sons and grandsons.

God bless you, Mother, be with God and live in our hearts.
