Mary Jane Brown Adams was the first wife of George H. Adams.
She was the daughter of John and Martha M. Brown. George and Mary Jane were the parents of: Martha Adams, Happy Ellen Adams Jones and John Adams.

OBITUARY

George H. Adams passed away at his home in Drakeville Saturday, December 23, 1916 from a complication of disease. Funeral services were conducted at the residence Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock by Rev. Karraker, pastor of the Christian Church at Drakeville. Interment made in the Adams cemetery six miles northwest of Drakeville.

Mr. Adams was 78 years old, born in Indiana coming to Davis County when only a small boy. Besides his wife he leaves five children, Miss Martha Adams, Omaha, Nebraska, Mrs. Happy Jones, Bloomfield, Iowa, John Q. Adams, Drakeville, Iowa, Samuel Adams, Pittsburg, Wisconsin, Clyde Adams, Udell, Iowa.

Two brothers survive Lewis Adams, Udell, Iowa and S. T. Adams, Drakeville.
Deceased was an old soldier, member of Co. B, 30th Iowa. Complete obituary next

George Henry Adams enlisted in the Union army during the Civil War as a private Aug. 9,1862 in Co. B 30th Iowa Inf. This unit saw much action in the war, mustering in Keokuk, then proceeding to Arkansas. They fought across the south
and southeast joining up with General Sherman. They participated in the burning of Atlanta, the march from Atlanta to the sea, the capture of Columbia, South
Carolina, and then the last battle at Bentonville, N. C., before accepting the surrender of rebel General Johnston.

Upon the surrender of the rebel army, the army that the Thirtieth Iowa was a part of marched through Petersburg, Richmond and Fredericksburg, and on to Alexandria on May 10th. On May 24th, the regiment took part in the Grand Review of Sherman's Army, by the President and General Grant. It then returned to its camp in Alexandria and was mustered out of service on June 5, 1865. They returned to Iowa by rail.
