Holy Mass of Christian Burial for 4-year-old Angelica Maria Chavez of Sweetwater will be held graveside at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, at Sweetwater Cemetery with Father Michael Rodriguez officiating, under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater.

She died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, in Sweetwater.

Visitation will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, at the McCoy Chapel of Memories.

Angelica was born on Nov. 10, 2005, in Appleton, Wisconsin.

Angelica loved dancing and singing and went to Kids Campus Daycare.

She always had a smile for everyone. She was known to all as a Princess.

Survivors include her father, Gabriel Chavez of Mexico; her mother, Christy Martinez Puentes of Sweetwater; a sister, Gabby Chavez of Sweetwater; two brothers, Nicholas Castillo of Jacksonville, Texas and Evan Chavez of Sweetwater; her maternal grandmother, Gloria Mauricio of Sweetwater; her maternal grandfather, Jesus Puentes and wife Mary of Sweetwater; her paternal grandparents, Cornelio and wife Maria Chavez of Mexico; numerous aunts and uncles; and numerous nephews and nieces and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Destiny Castillo.

Pallbearers will be Chris Rosas, Ben Montanez, Tony Gonzales III and Cornelio Chavez.

Child killed in one-vehicle rollover crash

One person was killed and five were injured in a one-vehicle rollover crash that occurred Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at 11:09 p.m.

The crash was on Interstate 20 at mile marker 240, five miles west of Sweetwater, according to Senior Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Phillip Dean.

Involved was one vehicle, a 1995 Chevrolet four-door, driven by Christella M. Puentes, 32, of Sweetwater.

The Chevrolet was traveling east on I-20 and attempted to exit at mile post 240 at an excessive speed, according to Dean. The vehicle went into a skid, went across the south service road and rolled over into an open field. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry.

Angelica Chavez, 4, of Sweetwater, was taken to Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital. She was pronounced dead at 12:47 a.m. by Dr. Lufkin Moses. Her body was taken to McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater. Chavez was not properly restrained in the vehicle.

The five injured were taken to Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital and are listed in stable condition. Injured were the driver of the vehicle, Puentes, who was properly restrained. Also injured was Gabriela Chavez, 2, of Sweetwater, who was not properly restrained; Jamie Flores, 44, of Houston, who was properly restrained; Sulema Salazar, 31, of Sweetwater, who was properly restrained; and Jambler Robledo Lerma, 37, of Mexico, who was not properly restrained.

There was one other occupant in the vehicle, Santana Gonzalez, 1, who was not injured.

Trooper Russell Conkling is investigating this crash.
