Rodney J. Ryan, 75, died on December 13, 2009. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, December 17, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3223 University Avenue in Des Moines, with burial following at Glendale Cemetery.
Rod a lifelong resident of Des Moines was the son of Lehan and Hannah (Cody) Ryan. He graduated from Roosevelt High Schol, University of Iowa and Drake Law School. Rod 's legal career included several years of private practice, assistant county attorney, Iowa District Court Judge and past president of Iowa Judges Association. He was a very active member of Trinity Lutheran Church serving on many boards and committees over the years and currently serving as President. Rod loved history and had an even greater passion for Iowa and Polk County History.
Rod is survived by his wife, Karen (Theiss) Ryan; children, Rick (Gayle) Ryan of Cedar Rapids, IA, Catherine (Larry) Fairfield of Laramie, WI, Angela (Tim) Huckaby of Des Moines and Kelli Ryan of Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren, Jon (Stacey) Ryan, Paul Ryan, Catlin, Hannah and Ben Fairfield, Jack Huckaby and new baby due in June; three great grandchildren and his brother, Jay (Carol) Ryan of Langley, WA.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 PM, Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at Iles Funeral Homes - Westover Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or Hope Ministries.
