Charles Herman Rabbitt was a very prosperous farmer near Gaithersburg, well-known locally and nationally in the cattle markets. At the time of his death, it was reported in the local newspapers that a vast horde of coins was found buried in milk cans in his yard, totaling about one half million dollars, and perhaps more for their numismatic values. Reportedly, he did not trust the security of the banks and buried the money. There were numerous amusing tales circulating about his wealth and his various trades and business activities; some of them no doubt true.
