Kelley L. Johnson
Kelley L. Johnson, 79, of rural Parsons died at 2:17 a.m. today, Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, at his home.
He was born April 28, 1925, in Coffeyville to Leo and Eula (Hittle) Johnson. When he was 4, his parents moved to a farm three miles south of Altamont for two years, then to the present neighborhood of Spring Valley and Center Bethel. He attended Catalpa Rural School and graduated from Labette County Community High School in Altamont in 1942.
He married Phoebe Carol Hunter on Dec. 11, 1943. They resided on the same farm since 1947, where he engaged in farming and raising cattle. She preceded him in death on Sept. 11, 1998.
He was an alternate on the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service Committee, a member of Labette County Farm Bureau, director of Labette County Fair Board for 12 years, a member of the Farmer's Association in Parsons for five years and president of Labette County Extension Council for two years. He also served on a rural water district board.
He had been a substitute school bus driver.
Survivors include his mother, Eula, of Parsons; three daughters, Eileen Leap and her husband, David, of Caney, Marilyn Peters and friend, Paul E. Fisher, of Parsons and Susan Allison and her husband, Mike, of rural Parsons; two sons, Carl and his wife, Sonya, of rural Parsons, and Mark and his wife, Jacki, of Pittsburg; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and his companion, Fernita Heiskell.
He was preceded in death by one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
The service will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Blackwell officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials to Labette County 4-H Memorial Fund or Labette County Fair Board may be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
