Aug. 27, 1891 pg. 3, col. 6 DIED JAY- James Jay died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. James Allender, near the Richwood church from which he was buried, August 20th. Mr. Jay was born in South Carolina in 1795, making him ninety-six years old. He was remarkably strong and vigorous and had never been sick in bed a day in his life until the Monday before he died. In 1803 he went to Oregon, where he spent three years. He had four children, three of whom lived to grow up and two are living now. He was member of Friends church and was very highly respected by his neighbors and all who knew him.
