Delores Jean (Collum) Lacaeyse was born on Sunday; March 3, 1935 in Poweshiek County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Snook) Collum. She attended the Poweshiek County schools and graduated from Brooklyn High School with the class of 1953. Delores married Marvin Fred Lacaeyse on Friday; January 15, 1954 at St. Patrick's Rectory in Brooklyn. To this union four children were born. The couple farmed near Montezuma for over 55 years. Besides being a homemaker, Delores enjoyed helping on the farm and keeping a vegetable and flower garden. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading. Her special passions were her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Social Circle Club and St. Patrick's Altar and Rosary Society. In later years she enjoyed traveling with her sister MaryAnn with the Grinnell Bank Tourist Club. Delores Jean Collum Lacaeyse, age 74 of rural Montezuma, passed away, Monday, December 7, 2009 at the Montezuma Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a lengthy illness. Those left to mourn her passing are: Her husband of 55 years, Marvin F. Lacaeyse; four children, Gene (Mary) of Grinnell, Carol Meseck (Gary) of Sioux Rapids, Carl (Jocelyn) of Malcom and Dean of Montezuma; 12 grandchildren Kelly Kibbee of Newton, Tim Kibbee (Kris) of Grinnell, Joshua Lacaeyse (Julie) of Grinnell, Andy Meseck of Storm Lake, Justin, Billy and Jennifer Meseck all of Sioux Rapids, Nick Lacaeyse of Malcom, Joel Lacaeyse (Jessie) of Montezuma, Alex Lacaeyse of Montezuma, Cassie Minnaert (Nate) of Brooklyn, and Melissa Quiroz of Spencer; and 11 great-grandchildren, Sam, Madelyn, and Max Kibbee of Grinnell, Kinze Lacaeyse of Montezuma, Antonio Meseck of Sioux Rapids, Olivia Upton of Ruthven, Jeffrey, Sofia, and Parker of Spencer and Karsyn and Karagyn Minnaert of Brooklyn. Also surviving are four brothers, Dave Collum (Mary Jo) of Brooklyn, Bob Collum (Marilyn) also of Brooklyn, Jim Collum of Grinnell and Tom Collum (Terry) of Scotch Grove; two sisters, Joyce Watson (George) of Marengo and MaryAnn Plants (Jim) of Brooklyn; a sister-in-law, Donna Collum of DeWitt and a brother-in-law Don Brau of Guernsey. Delores was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Joseph and Paul a sister Pat Brau, two nephews Mike Collum and Raymond Brau, and a sister-in-law Evelyn Donachie. May they rest in peace. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, December 12, 2009, St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn, with Fr. Brian Shepley officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn. Visitation: 5 to 7 P.M. Friday, December 11, 2009 at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn with a Scripture Service at 7 P.M. A memorial fund has been established.
