John Terence (Terry) Allio 66 of Dauphin, Pa., died Thursday, December 10, 2009, at Community General Osteopathic Hospital, Harrisburg, Pa., after a 4 month battle with lung cancer.
He was born in Meadville, Pa., July 11, 1943, a son of John J. and Doris Bryson Allio. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Liz) R. Shuller Allio who he married, September 9, 2006.
A 1961 graduate of Meadville Area Senior High School, he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corp. After a brief time in F.W. Woolworth management, he decided on a career with the railroad, beginning October 30, 1965 with Erie Lackawanna Railroad in Meadville, later to become Conrail where he was a Yardmaster. In April 1986, he became a conductor with Amtrak, traveling the Harrisburg to Pittsburgh run. He returned to Conrail in 1994, which later became Norfolk Southern Railway Co., retiring with them as a conductor on July 31, 2009, completing 44 years of railroad service.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge 408, F&AM, Meadville, Valley of Erie Scottish Rite Bodies and Zem Zem Shrine Temple of Erie, Pa. A member of Hope Presbyterian Church, Dauphin, Pa, where he was a member of the G.I.F.T group.
He was a dedicated family man and enjoyed landscape gardening, antiques, going to auctions and garage sales.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Tara L. King and her husband Tom, Irma M. Bean and her husband Dave, Christopher B. Allio and his wife Marcia, all of Meadville; seven Grandchildren; his Sister, Rita E. Bowser and her husband Robert J. Bowser, of Meadville; Several Cousins. He is also survived by his wife Liz's family which includes two daughters, Deb Wimberly and her husband Lee of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., De Lenker and her husband Dave of Millersburg; a Daughter-in-Law Dianne Shafer and her husband Jon, of Dauphin, plus nine more grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and his wife's son, Charles M. Shuller.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at 1 P.M., at Hope United Presbyterian Church, 931 Red Hill Road, Dauphin, Pa. The Rev. Dr. John L. Sproat, officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Memorial Gardens, Halifax, Pa.
