At the tender age of 19, she married William Bowman, also 19 on Oct. 28, 1820 in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland.
She & William became Mormons (Wm on Mar 13, 1848) (Margaret on Jan 10, 1848) after some missionaries helped her recover from a serious liver infection. Sadly, her husband, William passed away in Scotland in 1850 probably from black lung disease.
Margaret & Wm. had 10 children who did not all survive to adulthood. Margaret was the "boss" and after her husband's & parents' death, she decided all should emigrate to America to Utah. They had to go in 3 groups, saving enough money to send each group.
John Duncan wanted to marry her daughter Eliza who was only 16. She said it was ok if he also went with the group.
The Bowman/Duncan family took the Osborne in Liverpool and sailed to N. Orleans in 1852. They made there way to St. Louis where they stayed the winter, the men working at the Gravois mine. In the spring they joined the David Wilkin Company--there were 13 members in that family. They arrived in Salt Lake in Oct. 1853.
Margaret Snaddon Bowman died Nov. 27, 1874 in Centerville, Utah at age 74. Her daughter, Margaret, was taking care of her. She was truly a woman of tremendous faith. She received the Patriarchal blessing on Jan. 30, 1855.
