Actor. Born in Scotland, his forty-five year career in acting was highlighted by his portrayal of 'California Carlson' in over thirty motion pictures in the the "Hopalong Cassidy" western movie series in the 1940s. Popular and prolific, he transitioned into television roles in the 1950s, with his most notable role as 'Pa McBeam' in the 1960s western series "The Tall Man". He became know towards the end of his career for his many guest appearances in various television series. In 1960 he was given a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Hollywood, California.
