Thomas Richard Pegdon was born in England in 1831 and died at the Soldiers Home at Marshalltown, Iowa, July 6, 1923, at the advanced age of 92 years. At the age of three years he came with his parents to New York State, at the age of 28 he was married to Mrs. Catherine Seigel West. He enlisted in the Civil War from Oswego Counry, New York, on August 11, 1862, and served three years, being a member of the 110th regiment. He was honorably discharged September 2, 1865. In the year 1866 he with his wife and three step-children came to Iowa where he has since resided. Mrs. Pegdon died in 1910 and Chas. West, his step-son, died in 1908. For a number of years he made his home with Mrs. Rose West, finally going to the Soldiers home in January of 1921. He leaves one brother living in New York and the remaining members of his step sons family, who are Mrs. Rose West and her family, Mrs. Minnie Quinney, Mrs. Grace Stanton, Roy Twist and Elwin West. The funeral services were held at the Cong. church Sunday afternoon July 8th. Rev. W. H. Kent, the pastor, in charge.
