ANNA M. GREENE

Anna Melinda Greene was born on October 26, 1848 at Sweet Water, North Carolina, and died at her home in Derby, March 16, 1928 after a lingering illness of several months at the age of 79 years, 4 months and 29 days.

April 15, 1866 she was married to Lemuel Greene and to this union nine children were born, seven boys and two girls, five of whom preceded her in death. One died in infancy; the others attained their majority and died as follows: Charles, December 1, 1910; Arthur, March 12, 1919; Walter, January 12, 1923; Rebecca, October 11, 1925. The living children are: William of Amantha, North Carolina, George and Roby of Gresham, Oregon and Mrs. Adda Snider of Derby.

Besides her immediate family, she leaves to mourn her death, one brother, Richard Dotson of Pasadena, Calif., one sister, Mrs. Jane Parks of Key Station, Tennessee and thirty-six grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren.

She came with her family to Lucas county about thirty-five years ago, where she has since resided with the exception of a short time in Oklahoma.

She, with her husband, was converted and joined the Baptist church in 1868, at a revival held in a new church house, for which Mr. Greene sawed the lumber with his own mill, doing the work free gratis.

Owing to a fall sustained almost eight years ago, which confined her to a wheel chair, she has been unable to take the active part in the affairs of life that she otherwise would have done. She has steadily maintained her Christian faith and borne her affliction uncomplainingly, always cherishing the hope of better things in the life to come.

She was always tenderly cared for by her beloved companion and their daughter, Mrs. Adda Snider, and during her last illness of nineteen weeks they were constantly by her bedside, ever ready to help her and when medical aid and human hands could do no more, the Heavenly Father saw best to claim her as his own.

She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a kind friend and a good neighbor and it can truly be said of her, "gone but not forgotten."

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, conducted by R. P. Decker and interment was made in the Derby cemetery.
