Warren O. Douglas was the last of eight children of Alex Douglas and Emily Johnson. He was born on a farm near Camden along the Missouri river. He graduated from the eighth grade and went to work. As a boy, he worked on the farm and in his father's store in Camden. As an adult, he worked as a roughneck in the Oklahoma oil fields, as a telegrapher for the Missouri Pacific Railroad, and in various capacities, including truck driver, for Standard Oil Pipeline, from which he retired in 1965. He married Mary Leah Williams on June 11, 1920, and they had one daughter, Shirley. Warren, Mary, and Shirley lived in St. Louis during the 1920s, and Warren -- who loved baseball -- told great stories about having watched the Gashouse Gang in their heyday. In the late 1950s, Warren bought and improved a farm near Centerville, Linn County, Kansas. He sold that farm at a profit and bought, improved, and sold two other farms in Linn County, before retiring from farming in 1973. He was an avid bird dog trainer and hunter and crack shot. After selling his last farm, he tried fishing but didn't enjoy sitting still. In 1975, at age 75, he took up golf, which he played almost daily for the last fourteen years of his life. He loved to listen to baseball games at night on his old tube radio. He was a loving grandfather to Stephanie, Suzy, Shirley, and Doug, and great grandfather to Tommy, Mike, Josh, and Zach.
