Joseph S. Hatley, 77, of Bloomington, died Thursday at Bloomington Hospital.

Born March 23, 1918, in Shelby County, he was the son of George W. and Ola (Newman) Gilbert Hatley. He was a retired plumber for Monroe County Community School Corp. He was a member of Traveling Turtle Camping Club, National Campers and Hikers Association, and attended the Burgoon Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred (Fields) Hatley; three stepdaughters, Mary Blake and Sherri Schurtter, both of Bloomington, and Susan Zerfus of Las Vegas, Nev.; one stepson, Randall Fields of Bloomington; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nellie (Butcher) Hatley; his second wife, Juanita (Eads) Hatley; one son, Joseph R. Hatley; one sister, Eva Hacker; and two brothers, Francis Hatley and Paul Hatley.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Allen Funeral Home with the Revs. Harold Godsey and Charles Thomas officiating. Burial will be at Knightridge Cemetery. Friends may call 2-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
