John Barton "Bart" McGrath, 62, loving husband of Helen (Thibault) McGrath, died Wednesday, (July 4, 2001) in St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center after a long illness. He was born July 22, 1938, in Hartford, son of Mary (Barton) McGrath and the late John J. McGrath. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as an electrician and long time member of I.B.E.W. Local #35. John was a graduate of Hartford Public High School, Class of 1956, and attended University of Connecticut School of Electrical Engineering. He was a member of the Wethersfield/Rocky Hill Elks Lodge #2308. Besides his wife and mother, he was the loving father of three sons, Attorney Leo T. McGrath and his wife, Grace Anne of Kent Lakes, NY, John J. McGrath and his fiance, Wendy Allen of Wethersfield, and William A. McGrath of Middletown; and three daughters, Mary DeFurio and her husband, Bill of Rocky Hill, Diane Hughes and her husband, Richard of Cromwell, and Anne Marie McGrath of Rocky Hill. John also leaves a brother, Leo T. McGrath; and a sister, Judith McGrath, both of Newington. He was the loving grandfather of 12 grandchildren, Sarah, Amanda, Katie, Emily and Rebecca Hughes, Michael, Lisa, Julia and Karen DeFurio, Amelia and Malcolm McGrath and Lori Camilleri. A special thank-you to the Oncology Department and the staff of the eighth floor of St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center. The funeral will be held Monday, 9:15 a.m., from the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. James Church, Elm St., Rocky Hill, at 10 a.m. Burial will in Center Cemetery, Rocky Hill. Friends may call at the funeral home TODAY, 5-8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 45 Ashe St., East Hartford, CT 06108.
