Mr. Douglas "Duddy" Armistead of the Kempville Community died at the age of 61 Wednesday morning, October 1, 2003 at his Buffalo Road home as the result of a brain tumor.
Services were conducted Friday afternoon from the Hackett Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Waller and Bro. Junior Nesbitt officiating. Burial following the 3:00 p.m. services was in the Defeated Creek Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Armistead was married November 24, 1965 to the former Ollie Lee Richardson of Flora, Mississippi. He was born in the Difficult Community on January 22, 1942 and was the son of Dorothy Kemp Armistead Oldham of Hartsville and the late Robert Elijah Armistead. An Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, he was a Specialist 5th Class. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and received a commendation for being an expert marksman with an M-14 rifle. He was a truck driver for Ryder-P.I.E. Truck Lines before becoming disabled and was a Missionary Baptist.
Surviving in addition to his wife of almost38 years and mother are two sons, Chris Armistead of Kempville, Mike Armistead and wife Stacy of Alexandria, VA; brother, Freddie Armistead and wife Martha of Difficult; one granddaughter.
