James Mellinger, 71, New Freedom RD, Dies; Was Bldg. Contractor
New Freedom – James L. Mellinger, New Freedom RD 2, building contractor, died yesterday at 4:50 a.m. at Memorial Osteopathic Hospital, York, where he was admitted the day before. He was 71.
Mr. Mellinger, who was the husband of the late Mrs. Annie Jones Mellinger, was engaged in the construction business the past 25 years.
For 50 years he was a member of the Southern York County Band. He also was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Shrewsbury; Rose Fire Company of New Freedom, and the United Birthday Club of New Freedom.
Mr. Mellinger is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Alice Wright, New Freedom RD 2; three grandchildren, two brothers, Harry and Jennings Mellinger, both of Shrewsbury; a step-brother, Millard Mellinger, Wrightsville, and a step-sister, Mrs. Henry Stough, New Oxford.
Rev. George A. Heisey, pastor of the Jefferson United Church of Christ, charge, will officiate at funeral services Friday at 10 a.m. at the Geiple Funeral Home, Glen Rock. Interment will be in Giesey Memorial Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
