Retired Minister
Reverend Silas Jenkins Altheimer, 98, of 1821 Saracen Street, died Saturday at Jefferson Hospital. He was a retired minister and teacher.
He attended Branch Normal College (now Arkansas AM&N College), the University of Chicago, and the University of Iowa at Ames. He taught for 54 years in Pine Bluff public schools.
He was pastor of the Ward Chapel AME Church when the land for the church was purchased and the original church was constructed.
He had been a member of St. John AME Church since 1888. He was a mason.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. J. E. Altheimer; six sons, Felmon T. Altheimer of New York, Joe P. Altheimer and Sylvanus J. Altheimer, both of Pine Bluff, Reverend Berton C. Altheimer and Rowan J. Altheimer, both of Little Rock, and Rosenwald D. Altheimer of Detroit; two daughters, Mrs. Sylverline Barnett and Mrs. Elmonia Frame, both of Chicago; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren..
Funeral arrangements will be announced by P. K. Miller Mortuary.

Funeral services for Reverend Silas Jenkins Altheimer of 1821 Saracen Street, who died Saturday, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the St. John AME Church by Reverend T. D. Alexander. Burial will be in Bellwood Cemetery by P. K. Miller Mortuary.
Pallbearers will be members of Haygood Lodge 407.
A wake will be conducted at the mortuary from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight.
