Howard W. Rick, 89, a psychologist with the State of Maryland from the early 1950s until his retirement in 1980, died July 21 [2009] at his daughter's home in Frederick of congestive heart failure.
During his career, Mr. Rick counseled juvenile delinquents, mentally ill patients and families. He worked in Montgomery and Baltimore counties.
Howard William Rick, a native of Reading, Pa., received a bachelor's degree in psychology in 1944 from what is now Kutztown University in Kutztown, Pa., and a master's degree in psychology from Penn State University in 1948. He served in the mapping division of the Army Air Forces during World War II.
He had been a Rockville resident since 1953 and a member of Rockville Christian Church, where he sang in the choir. During retirement, he attended art classes at Montgomery College in Rockville and enjoyed making pottery and sculpture.
His wife of 56 years, Helen Milton Rick, died in 2002. A daughter, Marilyn Stebbins, died in 1987.
