Met Death Under Overturned Tractor

Lewis Craghead, 39-year-old farmer residing about two miles east of Union Church in Audrain County, was killed this morning when he was caught beneath an overturned tractor while cleaning a pond on his farm. Mr. Craghead had requested his wife to come see about him if he did not return home by a certain hour, and when he did not return, Mrs. Craghead went to investigate, and found his lifeless body under the tractor. Her discovery was made about 11:30 this morning.
Since Mr. Craghead was working alone, there were no witnesses to the tragic accident, but it is said that apparently he was thrown clear of the machine when it turned over, but that the machine later rolled over on him. After discovering her husband's body Mrs. Craghead secured help from neighbors, who pulled the machine off Mr. Craghead with their tractor. Dr. S. C. Adams, Audrain County Coroner, reported that the cause of death was a broken neck.
Mr. Craghead was the son of Mr. and Mrs. O. R. Craghead of Auxvasse, and besides his wife and parents, he is survived by a young daughter, a brother, and two sisters.
